Production processes and the treatment of patients in
hospitals or other healthcare institutes requires a high energy
consumption. The structural condition of healthcare
institutes also influences the energy consumption. Fresenius
continuously invests into the environmental protection by
constructional actions. This can be done via building new
institutes or modernizing buildings via the newest standards
of efficient thermal insulation and according to the current
energy saving rules.
Fresenius consumed within the fiscal year 2021 in total 5.3 M.
kWh in energy. Whether it’s the water- or the energy
consumption, patient and product security always comes first.
A secure and stable energy supply has highest priority. Any
kind of saving potential is proven carefully. Further on we
optimize our energy purchases and generate at many
locations our own electricity. This way we are independent
and are able to secure the energy supply long term
Energy consumption Fresenius Group

CO2-equvivalents.
Greenhouse emissions Fresenius Group, SCOPE 1 and 2

In the healthcare sector waste is a strongly regulated factor.
All locations of Fresenius are obligated to comply with the
applicable laws and rules as well as the global or local
standard working and environmental regulations.
There are important overlaps between a secured and
professional disposal and the requirements on hygiene and
sterile within production processes and treatments in a
hospital. This ranges from the selection of suitable disposal
boxes, cleaning and sterile procedures up to labor security of
our employees when disposing dangerous e.g. infectious
waste. All departments specify if needed within internal
policies, trainings and controls of our employees e.g. for
hygiene within our acute care clinics any kind of rules.
